This week leaders throughout the Faithwalking community joined together for three days to reflect, learn, and be challenged by each other. Being in a room with a group of people who are dedicated to living fully into God’s intended design for their lives, while actively doing the work to transform their communities, is inspirational and challenging.
This was my first time to meet anyone outside of the Houston Faithwalking community. Going into this learning community opportunity, my vision was vast but my perspective was narrow. I had little context for the unique journey of other groups committed to Faithwalking from around the nation.
As I reflect on our three days together, I am energized. I witnessed the power of an authentic community with a shared vision. Our purpose is more clear in me than it has ever been before. Faithwalking is not a program; it is a spiritual formation journey that leads us toward an integrated, missional life.
I see that Faithwalking is not alone in mobilizing people to become the functioning body of Christ. But I believe the work we are doing is radically changing lives and communities.
This isn’t to say we have it all figured out. There are still many questions for which we do not have answers. We call it a learning community because we are always seeking to learn and grow. Jerry Edmonson shared one of his life mantras with us that I believe applies in many respects to our community, “Respond to change, hold on to the basics.”
As we move forward, I am seeking to find more ways to continue building unity within the greater Faithwalking community. We are all on this journey together. Jesus did not expect any of us to go this road alone. But each of us have the responsibility to take on cultivating community, staying connected, and living into these values and concepts. Transformation has a half life, so we must stay engaged.
We’d love to hear from you on Facebook or Twitter: What are you doing to keep transformation alive in you?
